Beyond the Code

Code enforcement is a technical position which demands that inspectors be well-versed in multiple areas.  This new course is designed for all inspectors and provides them with the tools they will need to be successful outside of the technical application to the code.

This course is designed for new and experienced inspectors.  It will challenge their assumptions on code enforcement. This course will also provide information that all inspectors must know outside of the code itself.

Topics will include:

  • Transition to new roles in Fire Inspection
  • State laws and rules that affect the fire inspector
  • Legal Issues
  • Assistance and Education
  • Politics and Communication
  • Utilizing Codes and Standards
  • Approaches to Code Enforcement
  • Adoption of Ordinances
  • Public Education
  • Basics of Arson Investigation
