Taking a Look at 2008

What a whirl wind 1/2 of a year for us.  We started this site in August and has grown every day. The email list, comments, and page views nearly double every week. The site is purely intended to make our fire service better by sharing viewpoints, training, news, and creating a community for the service.

Lets take a look at some of the interesting stories from this year

  • Our top story is based on the requirement for safety vests.  Titled Traffic Safety on Emergency Scenes, it was written by Deputy Chief Michael Eckert.  The story has received great praise from across the United States and serves as a resource to every fire department.  Part II of the story will be run in 2009.
  • Many of you thanked us for providing the link to free training on light weight wood truss, a must attend for all fire fighters
  • We all mourned the loss of Detroit Fire Fighter Walter Harris who died tragically during an abandoned building fire.
  • Our Podcast “Michigan Fire Service Radio” has gotten some legs and two sessions have been posted.  We are working on many great episodes for the future.

2009 promises to be a great year as we are looking to expand the site and include our new Academy section which will be full of member benifits including additional podcasts, member only articles, access to online training and resources.  We wanted to thank you all for the support you have given us by commenting, sharing the site with peers, and sending your information.

This is truely Michigan’s first community for the fire service and we are excited about 2009.  Have a safe night tonight and be careful out there!  Happy New Years!
