Conducting Live Fire Training

Course to be Held on May 2, 2009

Training FireDesigned by the University of Maryland, Maryland Fire & Rescue Institute, this program is designed to introduce firefighters, instructors, fire officers, training officers, and chiefs to the attitudes and behaviors necessary to conduct a safe live fire training evolution.

The class will examine historical trends in fire training injuries and deaths, fire service safety culture issues, legal concerns, educational philosophy related to live fire training, and NFPA 1403 requirements for live fire training. Interactive group activities will be formed to identify and discuss issues related to safe training and to develop objectives for live fire training exercises. Live fire training in acquired structures and burn buildings will be addressed.

Michigan specific regulations from the following agencies will also be discussed.

  • Michigan Occupational Safety & Health Administration (MIOSHA)
  • Michigan Fire Fighters Training Council (MFFTC)
  • Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ)
