Council to Vote on Budget

The Detroit City Council is due to vote on the $3.5 billion dollar budget this week.  The budget restores approximately 19 EMS positions within the fire department although additional layoffs within the city are anticipated.

The Detroit News is reporting that nearly 300 layoffs will occur in the City Government and nearly 500 positions will not be filled that are currently open.

This is not the final step in the budget process but a very significant step towards final approval.  It will be interesting to see how many positions in the fire department will be lost or not filled.  Detroit Fire Department has been extremely busy with Arson fires and abandon building fires over the last several months.

Can DFD take any more hits?
