Deadline for registration extended till January 14, 2009

Eastern Michigan University’s Center for Regional and National Security (CeRNS) is pleased to announce the 11th Fire Staff and Command program for 2009.

The School of Fire Staff and Command program is a comprehensive 350-hour program that targets those fire officers destined for senior leadership within their departments. With technology advancing at such a rapid rate, senior fire officers must be prepared with the knowledge, skills and abilities afforded private industry, which often are ignored in public service. The program takes the fire officers beyond traditional operational methods and exposes them to conceptual thinking and problem solving.

The program addresses key issues in the fire service with a focus on:

  • Leadership
  • Planning and decision making
  • Human resource management
  • Administering the fire agency
  • Critical situations in homeland security

Advanced managerial issues also include:

  • Managerial issues from the perspective of the fire community
  • NFPA standards for accreditation
  • Enhanced incident command training and technology
  • Instruction on quality improvement, systematic problem solving, planning and decision making
  • Information on critical incidents and homeland security
  • Consolidations and media relations
  • Emphasis on practical application
  • Completion of a departmental research project
