Second Alarm Assignment
Today’s Table Talk on Open Mic Wednesday is quite simple. It deals with your communities response to fires and large incidents.
- Do you have an alarm system in place where you can request a second alarm?
- What criteria do you use to activate the second alarm?
- Will you wait just a little bit to see if the first alarm assignment can handle the incident?
Give us your thoughts on “open mic” Wednesday!

Well we didn’t strike a second alarm with anyone this week. I can say this it appears the MABAS system is growing some legs and helping out. One of the best systems I have seen is in Livingston County which allows IC’s to easily request a second and third alarm. These alarm assignments are pre-designated and help crews make one easy call in stead of a bunch of special calls to dispatch (frees up the IC’s and Dispatch time). I know when there is big fire beyond our typical response we hit the second alarm button, you can always send them home
