Regional Alliance for Firefighter Training to Host Program June 18-20, 2010
Positive Pressure Attack
Train-the-Trainer 3-Day Course
The 24-hour training includes review of the concept of PPA, including how to maximize its effectiveness for fire ground ventilation. Training will include live burns following National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1403 standards and the correct protocol for safe application of PPA aimed at meeting the diverse skill sets that firefighting requires. This application facilitates a safer fire attack and gives trapped occupants the highest probability to survive a fire event.
This training will provide officers another fire attack option to deploy during mitigation of structure fires.
Course objectives:
Upon completion participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate essential knowledge and skills of Positive Pressure Attack, including ventilation procedures and dangerous building conditions created by fire and fire-suppression activities.
- Understand how to use PPA as a single-company procedure or multi-company response to complex incidents.
- Perform horizontal ventilation on a structure operating as part of a team, given an assignment, personal protective equipment, ventilation tools and equipment (NFPA 5.3.11).
Prerequisites:
- All members participating in the burn drills will be certified by their agency as meeting NFPA’s Fire Fighter I Standard.
- Participants will be required to demonstrate their ability to participate in an interactive instructional methodology.
- Participants who will enter a burning structure must provide documentation that they are insured by their sponsoring agency, and are required to sign an agreement accepting all of the liability associated with the course and any instruction that they may perform.
- Upon registration, participants will receive a hold harmless agreement to sign.
Equipment:
Participants will provide their own personal protective equipment.
