Protecting the Work Area Saves Firefighters Lives

VBFD fire fighters had extinguished a car fire on Eastbound I-94 near Rossenville Road early Saturday morning.  When Engine 1 was struck by a semi.  Two fire fighters were inside the engine at the time of the collision trying to warm up after extinguishing a car fire.

The engine was blocking one lane to protect the work area.

The semi had significant damage and was sent down into the ditch after the collision.  Crews quickly requested support and extricated the driver from the badly damaged semi who was transported by helicopter to a local hospital

The firefighters on the scene of the accident were not hurt and thanks to doing things right went home at the end of the shift.
