The Brighton Area Fire Authority, a combination department, proudly serving the residents of Genoa Township, City of Brighton, and Brighton Township, is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Fire Chief. The Authority currently has 9 full-time employees, 82 paid-on-call personnel and an annual operating budget of approximately $2,800,000.

This position serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Fire Department and is responsible for the planning, organization, directing, managing and evaluating of all of the Authorities activities, and overall administration of the Authority. The hiring process will be at the sole discretion of the Brighton Area Fire Authority Board. Salary and benefit package is negotiable based on qualifications.

Detroit Tigers have paid a visit to the Detroit Fire Department. Several Tigers have given a an autographed fire department helmet and custom Walter Harris jersey to the fellow firefighters and family of Walter Harris.

On a separate day Detroit Tigers were treated as fire fighters for a couple hours as they worked through a maze and donned fire gear at the Detroit Fire Academy.

Chief(less) on Main Street?

As our elected officials debate the merits of ‘Wall Street vs. Main Street’ and try their best to fix this national economic mess, local municipal budgets are certainly being impacted. Then the local fire chief leaves, so now what does your community do?

The obvious first answer should be: ‘Hire a new chief!’ There will often be an interim period, because a finding a qualified candidate to lead the department is desired. An unfortunate trend is emerging, however, which if left unchecked, has the potential to cause many problems for the fire service.
