Residential Sprinklers

This weekend 20 representatives from Michigan were involved in the code hearings for the 2009 proposed ICC codes.  The big vote RB 64 which would require residential sprinklers in all one and two family dwellings (after adoption of the IRC by the State and January 1, 2011) and townhouses in accordance with the IRC passed.  The IRC is the base document for the Michigan Residential Code and currently Michigan utilizes the 2006 edition.

This is a great move to help with the fire problem in Michigan and we have a lot of work to do.  This does not make it enforceable in the State.  Over the next year many of the fire service groups and interested parties will be working together to propose this code requirement in the State of Michigan.
